Sheek Magazine

Prompts

Is this just a popularity contest?

I can’t help but feel that it is because there’s not a direct link with the amount of work put in with the amount of followers. Or even the passion to be in this field.

There are some people who only view this as a “hobby” and have stable jobs that they enjoy outside of fashion. Yet because of being white and/or straight sized, they are given more opportunities with brands because they are viewed as more “valuable” due to their follower count. And the algorithm loves ‘em so that helps as well.

I’ve said it many times before, I personally don’t want to be an influencer. I want a slow brand to see my skills as a photographer/content creator on Sheek and HIRE me to be a part of their team.

I have always been passionate about fashion (style more specifically) but never pursued it because it’s a difficult industry to get into. Instead I upped my visual art skills like design and photography.

The tips of being consistent, authentic, blah blah blah obviously don’t work because if they did, a lot more of us who really want to work in this field would have more support. Many of us plan posts months in advance, keep up with a schedule, and shoot high quality images. Why aren’t we given the same chance as those that don’t?

Is this space just for fun for you? Or would you too like to work within slow fashion?
